I'm so upset right now and feel the need to vent! Some of you may recall my recent posting about treating UTIs without antibiotics. My daughter had a UTI and I was desperately trying to avoid the meds and clear it on my own. After a few days she started to spike a fever and was really complaining of pain so I determined it was time to get her on a script.

So the usual procedure is to drop off labs, get a script for Bactrim, and then wait for the sensitivity report to determine if we're on the appropriate meds. Doctors office failed to call me after 3 days so I called them. I was told that the Bactrim would not work and then switched to Cephalexon. We completed a whole week of it just one week ago today. Lo and behold she woke up with UTI symptoms again this morning! I called the pediatrician on call today.. she looked at the report again and noticed an oversight.. we still were on the wrong meds! So today we started Augmentin. The last time she took this she had severe diarrhea.

Does this seem pretty pathetic or am I overreacting? Three different antibiotics in just a couple of weeks. I'm ticked and will be looking for a new pediatrician. I should mention that they have dropped the ball before (not like this though). :arrgh:

I hate to say this but this thing has happened to my daughter too many times to count. Peds pretty much know nothing about Spina Bifida. If my daughter gets a UTI I always have to take her an hour away to her uroligist jut to be on the safe side. But I feel your pain

That can be normal. Sometimes you just don't know what will work for a uti. Especially with us having so many of them. They become resistant very quickly. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Ughhhh. I am sorry. That just stinks and so should not happen. I hope your daughter feels better soon!
