Hi my name is Kristin. I am 27 years old. I live in Austin but I am originally from Houston. I have never been on one of these things before. I came to this forum just to ask a question bc I seem to not be getting answers myself so I need a little help.
I just moved to the Austin area 6 months ago andI need to find a doctor in the that deals with Adult Spina bifida patients but can't seem to find one that knows what he is doing.
Can anyone help me? Thanks for letting me become part of this community.

Welcome stellarmusic!
Unfortunately I cannot help you with docs in your area. It is my son that has sb so we have a ns in Boston.
You have come to the right place though. These people are wonderful and will be able to help you.

Hi Kristin,
Welcome! I am 31 and have SB. Finding a competant surgeon for adults with SB seems to be a common issue in our group. I wish I could help you find someone, but I am in the Boston area as well. There are a few people on this board from Texas, so hopefully someone can make a recommendation for you. I would also suggest contacting your local SB association to see if they have any ideas as well.
I wish you the best!

Stellarmusic, you need to find a pediatric neurosurgeon who accepts adult patients. My old neurosurgeon retired and my new one is pediatric. Had to see him in his office at Vanderbilt Children's, which was a little weird, but I'm just glad to find someone who takes adult patients.

Contact the local children's hospital neurosurgery department and ask if any of the pediatric nsgs take adults.

Did you have a neurosurgeon whom you liked in Houston? If so, contact that person and ask for a suggestion in Austin.

I didn't have a specific nueursurgeon growing up. I was at a teaching shriners and then to a teaching hospital so I was contantly seeing different doctors. But I will definitly call one of my local hospitals and see what they can do. Thanks for all of your help.
