We took Lizzie to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Philidelphia yesterday for an orthopedic evaluation. To our surprise - the doctor said we have EXCELLENT care where we are in Stony Brook, NY. It is such a comfort to hear that from people I consider top in the field. He said Lizzie is doing fabulous and attributes much of it to her "can do" attitude. He said her braces and foot & hip positions look great.

On that note, Just wanted to encourage all you parents to help foster an independent attitude in your child. It's horribly hard sometimes, especially when she wants to run barefooted or twirl like other kids, and when enemas keep her from doing something fun. But Lizzie has a wonderful attitude toward life most of the time, and I think it's because we always turn everything around to the positive side (even if I have to have a good cry later when I'm alone!).

Attitude can make you or break you! I can't count the times that doctors have said the same thing about me. Many doctors have bitched about the fact that I "do whatever I want to" with no regard to what they say but have also credited that attitude to my being able to do all that I can do.
You don't know your child's limits, they don't know thier limits and never will if you don't let them push. My mom used to get frustrated and mad at me a lot of times but would always say "It's your body if you break something we will take you in and have a cast put on it."
I may have to live with SB but I am doing it my way. Always encourage independence, and NEVER teach them to fear anything!
