Good evening everyone. My name's David. I am 18 and have myelomeningocele. I am obviously paralyzed from the waist down and thus incontinent and wheelchair-bound. I would like to find people, preferably my age, to talk with about it. :)

Hey, David!
My name is Delanie and I am 27 (my husband's 22) and having a baby with Open SB in May. I have gotten lots of support here. Though I may not be your age, I'm here to offer you support where I can! Where are you from?

:)

Hi David,
Welcome to the gang! Although I am not your age (31) we do have some people who are in their late teens / early 20's on this site. Hopefully you will be able to connect with them soon. In the meantime, take a look around and jump in wherever you want.

I have SBO at the level of L5 /S1 with a tethtered spinal cord that makes life "fun" at times. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Welcome, David. You'll find we have lots of different kinds of people here. Some are parents with children who have sb, and then we have a few teens and many adults of all ages. Many have myelomeningocele, but all are affected in various ways--some are wheelchair users, but many are not. Then there are those of us who have other types of sb, usually with some type of cord tethering. We also have varying degrees of mobility. One thing that most of us share--regardless of the type of sb or level of mobility--is the issue of incontinence. You'll find we talk about it quite a lot, because it is something that is hard to talk to the non-sb population about, being somewhat "taboo."

So don't be shy about jumping in wherever you want. And if you'd like, tell us more about yourself, such as where you live, whether you are in school, what you like to do, etc.

Welcome David!

I'm another of the "old folks".
42 years old, South African, IT nerd and wannabe teacher, Myelo at L3, no hydrocephalus, fulltime wheelchair user.

<soapbox> I don't like saying "wheelchair bound". Bound conveys a negative sense. My butt is not chained to the chair. A wheelchair is an instrument of liberation not bondage. Think about how "bound" you would be without your chair! </soapbox>

G'day David, welcome, me too way off the mark 50+.

ps, me complaining to young Doctor, boohoo I've become house bound! he got me to repeat it a few times (with a smirk). The penny dropped, to him I was saying I have a house in my butt. LOL

Wow, Summer. I'm 18 and have maybe 14 or 15 surgeries. Very brave for having had 50! I have Arnold Chiari as well. My neurologist said most myelo patients do.
