View Full Version : Cecostomy
C has had this for four years now. Everything was GREAT until detethering in May and now it just is not working to reliably control things for at least 24 hours. We have used lots of 'mixtures' for flushing but I am curious what others may have tried that seems to work. Right now we are using 800-900 cc's of water mixed with golightly or miralax. I have tried glycerin and salt in the past. Both were pretty ummmmm, shall I say, messy! Anyone have a different concoction that works for them?

Hi my son is 13 and I was told by doctor to use 500cc of water and salt only.
What is the benefit of other medications?
Thanks
I think that it is all a matter of what works for them. Does the salt cause cramping for your son? We use that or just plain water when we are on vacation since it is easier than carrying all the powder.

Not sure if this is okay to post this here but need some input--
My son is 14 months old and we have been having bowel issues and having UTIs even though he is cathed four times a day. We have talked with our developmental pediatrician about a c-tube but he wants to wait to see if Micah needs bladder surgery later on. My husband and I feel like it would benefit him NOW and later. He is pretty mobile, has AFOs and is getting his first walker next month, so he is constantly leaking stool and smells terrible because it is stuff we fed him 3 or 4 days ago. Please help!

We've been using the salt & water mix for a while now and N seems to do fine - doesn't complain about cramping, etc. Does take a while to get everything going again after a break in the routine, which can cause some interesting (mis/mess)haps.
