Hi there!
my name is Shahn and im a 2nd year student radiographer (xrays) in New Zealand :D. Im doing a study on Spina Bifida as part of an Imaging Pathology paper.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone has to give me regarding:
- how having SB affects their life, daily chores, work etc
- do you know the reason you/loved one specifically has SB
- what form of medical imaging have you recieved and for what specifically (eg ultrasound, xray, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, fluroscopy)

any help is greatly appreciated
thank you! :)

Hi Shahn
I'll give your questions a go:
1. I'm a wheelchair user due to SB. I also need to be within reach of clean accessable toilet facilities at all times - I do NOT go camping.
2. Why I or anyone else has SB is impossible to answer and in my opinion is a pointless/meaningless question. Sorry.
3. Well I'm 40 years old so I have had more x-rays taken of my various parts than just about anyone you are ever likely to meet. Thousands of plain old fashioned X-rays for mostly orthopeadic purposes. Ultrasound and IVP's (Intravenous Pyelogram) for urology. I have never and cannot ever have MRI due to metallic bits & pieces implanted during my spinal fusion surgery. As well as the fact that MRI and other such "exotic" machinery were rare in South Africa before the mid to late 1980's. Since my early teens (around 1981-2) I have had only had IVPs and ultrasounds for urology - nothing for orthopeadics. (I'm not counting sonars and x-rays etc done for an unrelated heart condition 2-3 years ago)
