View Full Version : lipomas...
I'm curious...Has anyone here have a lipoma return ??????
I had a detethering/lipoma removal done when I was about 16
Last week (I'm 53 now) I was getting out of the shower and me wife said hey what's that bump thing on your lower back.I checked with a mirror and WOW my lipoma has returned,it's a bit to the left of where the original one was and is the site where I had my major back pain episodes the other year where I couldn't move for about a week and was basically bed ridden.I've had a tingling sensation there for a bit but thought it was an irritation due to the belt of my pants (The belt goes right over that spot).I was at the G.P.'s today and he says we'll watch it to see if it gets any bigger.I wouldn't let him poke or prod at it cause before I had the original one removed if you smacked me there I'd be rendered paralyzed for a bunch of hours not being able to feel me legs
I'm way too old for any of this...Geez!!!
Any idea's or thoughts
Thanks

I didn't know they could return. I think you should ask for a referral to a neurosurgeon -- doesn't mean you'd be committing to surgery, just to have it evaluated. Then if it does get worse, you already have a relationship with someone.

As far as I understand it, lipomas are benign fatty tumors, so I would hypothesize that it is possible to grow some, especially if you have gained weight. Also, after my surgery, they actually "padded" the area around my incision with extra fat. I wonder if they might have done the same with you. Who knows? Definitely worth checking out though. Keep us posted!!!

My daughters doctor told me that they can return but only usually return when hitting a growth spurt. We have to go back every year until she stops growing to make sure it doesn't keep happening. He says he has had only a few cases of it though

Hi Amanda, I would even keep going at least once every year or so after she has stopped growing. I did not have any trouble during my growth spurts, but developed problems once I turned 30. I have since learned my lesson and will continue to see my neuro person and urologist once every year from here on out. :)

I developed problems at 32.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely keep going to see Emmy's Dr because you can never be too sure!

From what I've read and been told by my son's neurosurgeon, the lipoma can grow. But it is rare unless your weight increases. It's a fatty tumor, so will grow in relation to the increase in fat in other parts of the body. My son's neurosurgeon says he needs to watch his weight throughout life.
Thanks !!!!
Funny thing though...I'm kinda loosing a bit of weight
sitting at ~ 145 lb./65.7 kilo.Maybe that area is where you loose it last, seeing as it's a fatty deposit so to speak.

Hmm . . . maybe you're losing weight around it making it appear larger/more obvious?

Sounds plausible. How much weight have you lost? Is it something you're trying to do and, if not, have you seen a doctor about it? Sorry to be a nag.

1...About 10 or so pounds...
2...No and no...In spring, summer and fall I'm a heck of a lot more active especially in spring, tending to my and my mom's and now sister's yards,I have tons of work to do plus I ride a bike to everywhere I need to be.Basically I'm shedding off last years winter fat.
3...I never thought that,ever!
This bump/lipoma is more to the left than where the original one was.It also doesn't have the translucent bluish thin skin coloring that the original had.(When I was at me Mom's,tilling her garden I let her have a look at it as she remembers best what the original one looked like.) LOL,I'm 53 and had the nerve to show my Ma my bum...

Hmm, could also possibly be totally unrelated to SB. I have a lipoma on my chest, just below my breast. Freaked me totally out when it came up very quickly when I was only 19. I thought I had breast cancer, but it's just a lipoma. It's about 1 inch by 3.5 inches and sticks up about 3/4 inch.
Probably a good idea to get it checked out at any rate.
