hi, my name`s robert i`m 26 and my partner has spina bifida and it scares the hell out of me. we`ve been together a little over a year now and she just let me know about how at any time she could lose the ability to walk or even worse. just need to talk to someone about it so i dont break down in front of her
Hi robert! my 9 year old son has sb. there always is the possibility of losing the ability to walk, but its only a possibility. Just as there is the possibility to get hit by a truck while crossing the street. possibilities are always there, in the end everything is up to God! it sounds like you need to talk things out. goodluck!

Hi Robert,
I am 31 years old and have sb myleo. My husband is not disabled and had a few concerns as well. He never asked me about them he just went online and started studying everything he could about it. By the time it came up between us he already knew more about it than i did.
In our relationship we really didn't see where walking or riding in a wheelchair really mattered. We love each other, we get along wonderfully and to us that is what matters most in making a relationship work.
If you have any questions feel free to ask!!

I really have to question the accuracy of the statement "at any time she could lose the ability to walk or even worse".
SB is not a progressive degenerative condition, in fact once someone with SB reaches adulthood their condition should be quite fixed and unchanging. Except for the kind of weakening etc that everyone goes through with advancing age. I'm 40 now and am beginning to complain about how heavy my wheelchair is to lift into my car.:p
