So I've found something new 2 worry about ... Madison is now sitting up (yay!) but as is 2 be expected, sometimes falls backwards/sideways when reaching/rolling 4 things. So my ? is, how fragile is her shunt?

Today she laughed so hard she fell over landed directly on it!!! I nearly threw up I felt so bad:( I plan on strategically placing pillows around her from now on, but I am just wondering if any of U have had any problems with your baby falling on their shunt.

Madi seems fine, sleeping soundly in my arms. Can't bring myself 2 put her down.

Your like me, worrying over everything, its hard not too though, i won't even put my daughter in a creche because im afraid of another child hitting her across the head while im not there.
Kids fall all the time and bang their heads, i think with a shunt you just have to make sure she doesn't start vomiting or become drowsy and irritable. Sounds like shes just fine though :). Caitlin did nearly the same thing yesterday, i was doing her physio and she toppled over just as i was getting a pillow and banged her head off the wooden floor, i was in a panic too, but tumbles and falls are what kids are good at lol

Shunts are not fragile - they wouldn't be approved for use if they were.

We were told by our Neuro that it would take a serious impact (e.g car accident) for his shunt to break. But i still do the pillow thing and go into major panic every time he falls and hits his head. The trouble is toddlers and bumps and bruises go hand in hand, you've jus got to be vigilant when it happens and make sure that everythings o.k. It's really hard to stop myself from just wrapping him in cotton wool and then bubble wrap for that added protection but in the long run, i know i won't be doing him any favours and Cadon is such a BOY!! He can't walk yet but he can climb and somedays i feel i need to be an octopus with a hundred eyes he gets into everything and leaves a trail of destruction wherever he goes.

We don't do anything to purposefully protect the shunt.
