OK.....I was racing through, heart pumping.....having....like O M G!!! want that and that, moments. Bumper stickers and pendant (50+m).

Struck a bit by 'cure'......what's that about.
Then struck by the yellow ribbon.....who...when....how.....why wasn't I told! lol.
Then thinking who are all these industrious money makers...in the name of US!
A charitable portion of thier profits...to us. believe it or not.

Yellow...damn, it may be sunflowers and sunshine, but No 1. SB=yellow=urine, sorry but the association will be realised. Yellow also represents madness, weakness, illness.
AND there may be something in the idea of being 'deployed' in a military fashion to manage any 'amber alerts'.......but ME my SB and the American Army at War.....NOT IN MY NAME! just me.

I will not be supporting these bogus patronising industries....selling junk. Keep it in 'only in America'.

WOW.....I won't be spending any of my hard earned money on this stuff either....seems patronizing.By the by what percentage of the loot made actually helps people with SB

I personally know the mom who is the founder (?) (not sure if that's the right word) of the http://urbanupcycling.blogspot.com and know that all proceeds she makes go directly towards the SBAA...not only that, but wearing a shirt, or a neclace, or whatever that says SB can raise awareness. Someone may say "hey, I love your neclace" and then you have a chance to say what it means to you and why you wear it. People just DON'T KNOW about SB and if I can tell just a few people what it is...then I wil, and if wearing a necklace helps bring up the topic...then GREAT! To each his own, I guess!! :)

That's great to hear and am glad all the proceeds go for the good of SB.Many times and with many causes it doesn't,it's turned me into a sceptic with things like this.

Hey guys. Long time no talk but there is a girl with spina bifida who makes bottle cap necklaces for 7.99 with free shipping.

Amber has SB and makes these for a living but she is giving 100% of the proceeds to SBA.
http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=Shop&op=listing&product_id=2101083

"October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month. All of the proceeds from this Necklace (on a black organza cord for ladies or a metal ball chain for men) will be donated to the Spina Bifida Association of America. This is something that touched my life everyday."- Amber

I also have passed around to a few mom of a custom piece that me and a jeweler put together. She has put work into putting the design and presentation for me so it would only be fair that her design being used stays with her. I love her work and if anyone is interested they can email me and I can send the pdf of the drawn presentation.

Hi, Leigh, Gymp, Delanie, me too..bit of a cynic in my old age, seen it all before.

Absolutely, at first I was excited looking at the jewellery, seeing myself with a discreet, 'proud' piece of my heart to wear on my sleeve. Hoping it to be noticed by those who know, those close to me, or those just interested.
It's a great idea, I'd like a key ring/ bumper sticker.
And there are beautiful people in the world 'creating' and giving 'all' from the heart.
I share thier love.

And there are unscrupulous ignorant greedy people with there own agenda, who take it upon themselves to mass produce bogus retail in the name of charity.

How dare! who ever for associating SB with the American war! The yellow crystal on the yellow ribbon...I just wanted to puke!
The yellow ribbon! how did that come about? Is this expected to become our global charity symbol.....I don't like it...yellow=coward, at the very least.

Cure! yeah sure! but for me that's damned insulting, unlikely to the extreme, maybe 50/100 yrs, NOBODY KNOWS, emotive 'false' advertising.
Sure designed to open wallets.....but I for one don't want to be apart of some BS ripoff industry of untruthes, false hopes, and pitty.
Cure to me suggests.....look at me!..this is what we need to rid the world of at any cost, this is what we so desperately need to stop.....OUCH!!!!
Of course it's not all about me.

I've got to go, I'll be back

The ribbon has been yellow for SBA for at least 12 years now. That is how our logo was conceived. I asked the artist to do something 'different'. I personally love the way the artist changed it from looking like the military one for this site but that is just me

I did end up finding a necklace I liked on the urbanupcycling site and bought it, but I personally didn't like all of the shirts/bumper stickers on one of the other sites that say "SB Sucks", "SB Blows", etc. I don't think they help with awareness, but that's just my opinion.

Sean -- The yellow ribbon doesn't represent support for the war. It represents support for the troops that are fighting the war and for their families. It is used in that way by people who are anti-war, as well as those who are pro-war. I'm not sure when the first yellow ribbons were used, but I do remember that yellow ribbons were used to support the families of the hostages during the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979-80.

I LOVE the logo for this site! I honestly hadn't recognized it before as an adaptation of the yellow ribbon of the SBA. It is very creative.

Oh no! REALLY? To me it has always been so obvious. I bet a lot of people don't get it then.

Oops, never realised the SBC logo as yellow or ribbon...before. Sorry not thought, it is nice. (but it's not a yellow ribbon) The jewellery, first time I've seen it. Excuse me, still not likeing it....you realise "just me", maybe in a pastel creamy yellow lol.
There has been too much darn wee in my life!

Excuse me, I am turning into a grumpy old man. I have always dreamed of this level of out there recognition, self and all, education.....acceptance.
As much as I've dreamed it, I've come to learn to fear it.
Disability can become a product, with this highly guaranteed emotive endless source of goods 'to maintain!"
Sorry for my negativity, but retail in the name of charity is thwart with ethical/moral considerations, that as I've seen here in OZ, are spun into a charity industry.
Controlled by a few faceless corporates, with anything 'cure', people, the last thing on the agenda. It's ugly.

Now I'm not saying another grumpy word, cause I love it all, just keep it real, honest.

BTW just been to the dentist, little chip, turned into a performance (assault), numb tounge, got that drippy feeling........mmmm.

Thanks Lisa, so the yellow ribbon originates from the ol', 'Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree', til the troops come home...is that the story?
Sorry, troops, families, pro, anti, I don't like the association. just me.

Why share a colour at all?

Delanie - Thank you so much for your support!

I would like to thank everyone who visited my website.

I had my own booth at a craft fair yesterday and displayed several of the SB necklaces. Even selling a few, which made me very proud! Altho, I am paying the price today. I have been popping pills all day just to be able to get out of bed for just a few minutes. I did have a blast yesterday and wouldn't take any of it back for anything.

As far as associating the yellow ribbon with 'pee' I think is a little far reaching in my opinion. There are only so many colors that can be used and SO many incurable diseases and sicknesses out there that need attention.

Just my 2 cents. :p
