a while back, some of you were talking about your scars an how they are bumpy. i just found out why and thought id share. a few years back, if the nerves in the spinal cord were exposed, most doctors would cut off whatever was protruding from the body. thats why alot of people who had spina bifida were paralyzed from the lesion down. nowadays, what they are doing is called an accordian effect where they fold up the nerves and push them back in. thats what the bumps are. its the spinal nerves folded up under the skin. the reason they do this now is because they have discovered that peripheral nerves do regenerate. the actual spinal nerves dont, but the nerves coming down off of the spinal cord do. so a child who is born with no feeling at all in the feet can possibly regain some sensation over time. this may take years as the nerves grow very slowly, but it is possible. just thought id let everyone know what i found...

That is interesting reading. How long ago did the change happen?

I was wondering if any of you have noticed the scar getting more splochy, more veiny, etc? My baby's scar isn't getting better with age, it seems like it's changing, getting more splotchy etc. Was wondering if other people have noticed that at all?

Interesting, but it doesn't explain why my 1967 vintage scar looks the way it does.
