I'm looking for weight loss ideas. I went to the doctor today and the weight number was just unacceptable. I can't walk super far, so going for walks is going to become frustrating before it becomes helpful. Any other ideas? I'm really done growing bigger and need help.

Would you be able to ride a stationary bike? Also, you might think about Weight Watchers -- they have an online version where you don't have to go to groups.
Maybe ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist who can help you devise a doable exercise program?

definitely! I'm rooting for you!! If I think of anything I'll post it for you but in the meantime, GOOD LUCK!!! :)
Misty, you know, we all know. Stop eating junk and lazing around. If you eat well you don't have to exersice as much. That burger chips and moose are going to need at least a full morning of exersice and sweat. That home cooked fish and salad and wieghtwatchers pudding, you probably work off getting ready for work.
There's an add campain here at the moment (we are fatter than you guys, per capita)
Swap it!. Swap what you know is not good for something that you know is.
What about some water aerobics.
I think if the desire is there it will happen, keeping it on your mind, reminding yourself everytime you eat drink and/or do nothing. It's going to sit there if you don't work it.
Say it, repeat it, I am not going to get fat! I am not going to get fat!
Turn the TV off and clean something. Cleaning, that's my good habit over bad, works well, clean house and exhausting.
You can do it.

My suggestion for everyone right now is to try Zumba. Yes, I know it's only a cardio workout, but isn't getting up and moving around and getting your heart rate up for an hour better than spending that time sitting around doing nothing? My only warning is that you might have to adapt some of the movements to whatever you're capable of doing. But according to my instructor, your average hour-long Zumba class burns 574 calories for your average person. (Added benefit: Most women feel a little sexier after class. So that might help with the baby production!)

the Zumba abs DVD is pretty amazing! I'm loving it thus far....thanks so much for helping introduce me to Zumba!
An additional note for everyone....youtube has A LOT of videos pertaining to Zumba. In my quest to find some that I could easily follow along with, I found a wheelchair user whose videos are fun to watch and they always make me want to dance :) I'll pass along the link. I'm not a subscriber because my life isn't fascinating enough to record/videotape but I'm a faithful viewer.
OH btw she is now officially a Zumba instructor.

I live in a small town so I usually go shopping without the car - the supermarket is about 1km away. On an average day I probably travel 3 to 4 km by wheelchair. It's not enough though as I have a bit of a belly.
I'm "allergic" to excercise as an activity in itself. I prefer to get excercise as a "side effect" of doing something useful - like shopping. My current academic workload unfortunately has me stuck at a desk most of the time.
I wish you good luck with it all. I'm in the same position right now. I'm actually going to speak to someone about it tomorrow and am hoping they can suggest something actually useful. I only really need to lose maybe 5-10kg, but think it's going to take a while to come off.
Scratch my above post..
I've just come from an appointment with a new disabilties clinic and got weighed.... let's just say I need to lose a lot more than what I said before :(

Misty, look into Herbalife. I started in February and I've lost 25 pounds so far. You replace breakfast and dinner with a shake and snack on fruit and veggies inbetween with a balanced lunch. It was hard at first to cut out all the junk but it's been so worth it.

I dont have sb myself but i am really good at losing weight and was asked to be a weight watcher leader just before i fell pregnant with Fergus. 90% of weight loss is through watching what you eat. i have lost 81 pounds since November by doing the new pro points ww plan online. I think it is very good. Hard to grasp the first week but super easy now. I am always full and i really love the food i am eating. I dont do any intentional exercise at all.

On this subject i feel i must give a warning. I have a friend who has SB who had gastric bypass surgery in January 2010. It almost killed her, she spent from january 2010 till september 2010 in the hospital. She was supposed to get married in may of last year but the wedding was put off. I am happy to say she is getting married next month but she still isn't completly over the affects of the surgery. When she was at her worst (i posted on this board about it) I went to shriners to talk to people who i know have a clue about SB. She is in her late 30's she hasn't seen anyone at that hospital in a long time. I see them a lot because my son is a patient. Anyway i went to the people that know and they were HORRIFIED that any doctor would dare do that surgery on her or any other patient with SB. I am not sure all the reasons why it is a bad idea but after seeing what my friend went through, and is still going through I just have to say beware of the lapband/gastric bypass methods.

I would never do gastric bypass. Not that I'm against someone else doing it. I just can't wrap my head around voluntary surgery for any reason.

Oh girl same here! I can't imagine surgery for anything that isn't life or death. It is a good thing to cause i bet you i would be one of those plastic surgery addicts in my older years but i hate surgery so much i am just gonna have to suck it up and deal with what nature hands me lol

I would love to get rid of my arm flab but then I talk myself out of the desire for the surgery because I just picture the anesthesia and that's enough to put an end to it lol....although I know anesthesia has become more advanced since I was a kid I can't seem to knock the horror I went thru with it...Plus, the recovery time would make me more dependent on people and as we all know that's never good! :-)

i think gastic bypass should only be done if that is the last option. i daydream about getting plastic surgery but in reality even if i won lotto i dont think i could justify spending that sort of money on how i look.

It's seriously a bad idea for people with SB? O.O
My doctors were GIVING me the idea! LOL! But that's 'cause I deal with more than just SB and nothing is getting the weight off. Lapband anyway, I would never go with the gastric bypass. Don't even really want that but if it were to help...
'Cause I quite literally gained 70-75lbs after my last detethering. I went from 120 to almost 200 in less than a year... (I weigh more than that now. See the problem?:() That was the year I got my lovely girl thing and my hormones went nuuuuuuuuts. Now it just hates me. :(
As for weightloss NORMALLY, though! I say start dancing! I used to looove dancing! Or get into a sport! Ride a bike! ...Jump on a trampoline! The last thing sounds ridiculous but it's low impact and so much fun, lol.
This has been suggested to me. It's in Australia, but they might have something similar in other countries.

Gastric by-pass can be pretty risky even for people who don't have sb (or any other health issues except obesity). I know someone who had it and lost 200 lb and in the end it has greatly improved most aspects of his health. He had the surgery probably 5 years ago. Last fall, he got really sick and it turned out that the bypass surgery can cause your body to not absorb certain essential vitamins and minerals. He was so iron deficient he almost died, and he has to have monthly B12 shots for the rest of his life.

I know someone with sb that had the gastric bypass and did just fine. She lost a lot of weight too. I also thought it wasn't the best idea, but it has made the biggest difference in her life. I have a friend of mine with sb that the doctors told her they would do it, if she wanted. My mom had the lapband done about 3 years ago now. She lost a lot of weight, but gained a majority of it back just within the last year.
I have SB and I had Gastric Bypass surgery. I am doing great. As far as weight goes I am less than half the woman I was before the surgery. It was the greatest decision I have made. I honestly think it is worth it if you can find a doc who will do it.

Yeah I'm kind of with you on this. It is very hard for me to be active and this hurts my fitness. The main thing I'm trying to do is cut back on eating which isn't the easiest but it's probably the most effective for someone like me who can't be very active. I do try to get as much exercise in as possible. The best way is probably cutting back on eating though.
