Hi everyone,

I'm sitting here listening to Jason Mraz and it's making me feel all smiley.

I was just wondering what music you're all into?

I'm more of a pop and rock kind of girl. I also grew up in the age of the boyband, so they all make me smile...lol. I'm actually going to see New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boiys in July! I just saw Katy Perry 2 weeks ago. I love going to concerts.

Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, Genesis, Johnny Clegg, The Who, Air Supply, Cindi Lauper, Def Leppard, Eric Clapton, Sixto Rodriguez, ABBA, Tina Turner, L v Beethoven, Freshlyground, BeeGees, Jimmi Hendrix, Madonna, Iron Maiden, Smokie, JS Bach, REO Speedwagon, Vangelis, Joan Baez, Steve Winwood, AC/DC, Mango Groove, Beach Boys, The Doors, GF Handel, Sex Pistols, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Carlos Santana, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, and so and on and on and on...

I don't like:
Rap and Hip Hop, (wannabe "artists" who belong in prison, not on stages and MTV)
Trance (or whatever they call the spaced out on drugs rubbish),
Lady Gaga ("Gaga" is correct. She needs to be locked up in a padded room)
DJ mix dance stuff (can't bring myself to call it music),
Screechy headache inducing (strangling a cat) opera.

My preferred music is a combination of indie, old jazz, and ambient (drone, mainly) music.

Some of the more played ones on my iTunes include:

Phoenix
Orbital
DeVotchKa
Mates of State
Butterglory
Rusted Root
Tokyo Police Club
Arcade Fire
The Call
The National
The Waterboys
Broken Social Scene
The Hooters

Just starting to get into old jazz and drone, so my knowledge of artists is not good. But for drone, I like Brian Parnham, Sundummy, and Stars of the Lid, among others.

Right now, I have "Power Out" by Arcade Fire on. I won't link to it because I don't want to spam. But yu may lookany of these bands up on YouTube.

Same here!
I suppose you were born in the eighties?
I used to love BSB, Boys II Men, Boyzone, Westlife, Hanson, 98 Degrees, etc.
I enjoyed going to concerts once in a while when I was younger, but I now feel concerts are too loud and too much of a hassle for me.

I am into a little bit of every kind of music save for C-RAP and most modern pop. I am also an audiophile and vinyl fanatic. And have a music blog, www.theczarsof45.blogspot.com with my good cohort Nathan. Even my wife and sons are audiophiles. I am especially fond of pre 1985 rock and roll, classic pre 1980 R&B, Blues, classic country, folk, jazz, classical, and even better easy listening. I own over 35,000 records, my wife owns over 50,000 records. We are inveterate music lovers.

Yup I'm an 80s baby. Oh how I loved Westlife. They could never get big over here in the states, but my Dad's ex boss was from England and would get me all of their stuff...lol. I met them once too. I've seen way too many concerts of Hanson and BSB...lol.

used to? Aww lol. I love Lady Gaga too! Not a Britney fan at all. I had a run in with her at the age of 16. Kind of turned me off of her. Katy Perry was awesome in concert. I was very surprised, in a good way.

I had gotten a wish from the Starlight Foundation and got to go to the MTV Music Awards. The hotel we stayed at was a block away from where most of the music people were staying, so my day was spent outside of that hotel...lol. Well, I got to talking to her bodyguard and some other people that were associated with her. I found out that she was leaving the hotel in an underground garage. So, my dad and I went over there. I wasn't even close to where she was or the garage and the bodyguard that I had just talked to and was nice with started yelling at me to get back. There were maybe 4-6 people where we were when he started yelling. He then proceeded to tell us that she was going to come out and WALK down the street to her car. You weren't allowed to take pictures of her. You were allowed to say hi and that was it. She then proceeded to walk down the side walk down to the end of the street maybe 100 feet in front of the rest of the people that were outside waiting for Nsync to come out. There were probably 100 on that side. Yet, she had a garage they could have pulled the car in. I saw the bodyguard the next day and he not once said sorry for yelling and cursing at us even though he did remember me. Needless to say the walk down to the car just to have attention turned me off of her. I met several other people that week that were awesome to me and the other wish recipient.

I love metal mostly, for some reason it speaks to me (and not in a bad way)
However if you check out my ipod then you will find a HUGE mixture!
I read the posts in this thread and I am more along the musical lines with Dodger.
I love Hank Williams Sr. because when i had my club foot repair I stayed with my grandfather during the day. He was retired and he had a barn and some chickens just to keep him busy. I had a cast to my hip and couldn't walk so he would plop me down under the pecan tree and put the duel cassette player beside me with a Hank Sr. tape. All day long I sat there and flipped that tape, every now and then he would yell "Turn it up they lay more eggs when you play Hank really loud" He was such a funny old man! Everytime i hear him i am taken right back to sittin under that pecan tree.
I also love Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn because mamow loved to sing all of her songs on a road trip lol.
I love 80's, i sat on stage at a poison concert (and got to go backstage) but that is a long story, I have a picture of me with the lead singer of def leppard on my facebook page (he doesn't like me very much) and i crawled under a semi trailor (it was parked) to sneak backstage at an Aerosmith concert. I am a child of the 90's so there was nothing in that decade (other than boy bands and spice girls) that i didn't like. I visited a relative in New orleans and she had a place just across the street from a place trent rezner from Nine inch Nails. I sat out on her balcony for HOURS just hoping to get a glimpse. I could go on for ever on this topic. Music is my passion actually, I have no talent i am just an enthusiastic listner. I take pride in watching my son he is me all over again but he has musical talent.

I like it all and as of recently I have had a deep affinity for all things cheesy and 80's :-p

well unlike Dodger and many others I like what he refers to as "DJ mix dance stuff" and enjoy creating my own music. That music speaks to me and don't need the drugs either. Too many people its repetitive noise but its not, and not all of it is good just like other genres of music. I've followed DJ and Electronic bands across cities and states and now I'm luck to catch a local DJ here and there. It's great music to do almost anything but that's me.

I also like Indie bands, and a lot of European bands, mainly of the 80's such as The Cure, Smith, New Order, Depeche Mode. Overall I can listen to almost anything but country music (and I'm from Texas, which if you're are not from the US people relate cowboys and country music to Texas).

I forgot to say that, I can't stomach country music unless it's verging on the side of pop. So I guess I have to back track on saying I like all things cheesy lol.

Justy,
it is so funny you bring up The Cure. I love them and have since the 80's and my son has just discovered them he is also a fan. I love depeche mode as well, got personal jesus stuck in my head now that you mentioned them lol.
Have you ever heard of Thrill kill kult. They do a lot of tecno type dance music, they are my favorite used to hear them in clubs all the time during the 90's.

Justy may like them too but I am the fan that posted...seen DM many times and even though David Gahan gets older he can still move. And well I've seen the Cure throughout the 90's and a couple of times in this decade but Robert Smith never moves on stage. I too went to see My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult several times at local clubs in the 90's...they still tour. I had my industrial days too of Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Throbbing Gristle, etc. :)

No worries I do like all the aforementioned bands nonetheless lol. I'm missing the 80's right now myself. Just thinking about the New Kids is making me want to bust out my black turtleneck and over-sized NKOTB shirt! I could go on and on...hospitals and doctors and all that and I still think back fondly to my childhood.

I like almost anything I can get my hands on.
That includes classical and country (two things a lot of people don't seem to enjoy anymore :().

My most common listening choice is rockier stuff, though. Whether that's "classic rock", rock, metal... That's my main go to.

But I like industrial, I like classical (helloooo, Beethoven was a genius!), blues, dance music... I have musical ADHD!

When it comes to choosing favourites, I don't know if I could. Umm... Let's pull out a few, lol.

NIN, Beethoven, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nick Cave, Elton John, Eisbrecher, Sublime, Marilyn Manson, Genitorturers, City & Colour, Marianas Trench, Warren Zevon, Seether, Apocalyptica, Alice Cooper, Emlie Autumn, BB King, Avenged Sevenfold, Christina Aguilera, Krizz Kaliko, Mamas & the Papas, MC Chris, Pantera, Dio, Queen, Eric Clapton, BTO, Frank Zappa...

There's a small list of random stuff as chosen by my playlist. Shuffle didn't give you a very good variety, but hey!

I'll listen to pretty much everything.I like alot of stuff from my parents generation from the 1940's and 1950's,then my generation in the 1960's and thru the 1970's and 80's.Then came our kid's music that's taken me from the 1990's through til now.

I can do without that Rap stuff where they go on about shooting up the neighbourhood and M'flocking this and that.I can tolerate opera but I'd never buy any of it or tune it in on the radio.

I absolutely love the blues,Billy Holiday,John Lee Hooker,Buddy Guy,Muddy Waters,Johnny Winter and Dutch Mason to name just a few.I love Hank Williams Sr. and think of him more of a bluesman than a country musician.

I like good ol' rock and roll and Motown as well, and pretty much all that's been mentioned by the previous posters in this thread,I could keep going on but will leave it at that.

Music is Good for the Soul!

I LOVE music. :)
Mostly I listen to classic rock, heavy metal, and just rock in general. I'm a huge Def Leppard fan, I've seen them 3 times, it would have been more, but I've got to work, ya know? Queen's awesome. Motley Crue. AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Guns n' Roses, The Doors, CCR...the list goes on and on. I could talk about my favorite bands for days, weeks, YEARS!
But really, I could listen to anything.

I must admit I am surprised Katie Perry can actually kind of sing.
