Hi, Everyone

I'm a 32 yr. old female with Spina Bifida. I also have two shunts. I'm interested in seeing if anybody has trouble with their shunts. In the 32 yr. I've been alive I've had over 100 shunt revisons. After being kicked out of Childrens Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois at age 25. On the way to the emergency room. I found a Spina Bifida Clinic at Loyola University in Maywood, Illinois. Dr. Anderson at Loyola did three shunt revisions. After the 3rd surgery Dr. Anderson told me he wouldn't touch me. Until I got every tooth pulled out. After I got all my teeth pulled. I went back to see Dr. Anderson then he looked at the ct scan again then he started to tell me I needed a shrink. On August 27th of 2007 I met with Dr. Kenji Muro he felt the shunt and knew it was not working. After, the surgery Dr. Muro told me the shunt that Dr. Anderson from Loyola put in was not even connected. Since seeing Dr. Muro on my birthday Aug. 27, 2007 I've had 22 revisions. Has anyone else have these kind of problems with there dr. or a problem with there shunt not working. I feel that if you have had a shunt your whole life that you know what your talking about when you say your shunt is not working. I hate surgery and the anthesiologist probably hate me even more. I will not even lay down on the operating table. I have a fear of laying down and dying on an operating table. So please if anyone reads this and can understand my problems with my shunt let me know. Thanks, Tammy

Hi! Welcome to the site! Fairly new here myself. My daughter has SB & a VP shunt. She has only had one revision, but we know a family with a 19-year-old who has had about 2 revisions a year since birth. I'm very sorry to hear about your problems. Have you tried the programmable shunt? It's what my daughter has and in it's present form is only about 6 years old. It has worked well for us. LOL
