:help:I was wondering if anyone other than me has a problem with the back of their ankles getting cut when either getting out of their wheelchair or when the feet slip off the foot rests.
I am thinking about putting rubber tubing around the edges of the foot rests to protect my ankles.

Does anyone else find it really odd that footrests with sharp edges exist at all?
Have you fitted tubing yet?
Does it work?
C hits his ankle all the time on the tubing of the foot rest that has a screw in it. Also, he has lost several toe nails in the openings of the foot plate--his is not solid.
I agree Dodger. You would think they could get this right. For now, he wears heavy socks to protect his feet and ankles

My foot rest is a one piece. My foot rest is getting the sharp edge from having to load my chair into my car by myself and the foot rest hitting the ground over and over again and before anyone says anything, I do try very hard not to let my foot rest hit the ground, it just happens sometimes.
I did try to put the rubber tubing on the foot rest but it turned out the tubing was to bulky to be put on the edge of the foot rest. The next think I am going to try is the spray on material that they use sometimes on outside stairs so that people don't slip on them when they are wet.
Barb, C is doing the right thing about wearing the thick socks to protect his heels from the screws on his footrests.
