View Full Version : Tinnitus...
Does anyone else experience this?
Since early last fall I've started to hear what I can only describe as the sound of chimes in my left ear,my left ear is also the one I'm three quarters deaf in.It comes and goes but as time goes on it's getting to be more frequent and lasting longer. It can be abit aggravating when trying to go to sleep and all is quiet in the house.During the day it's not as much as there are enough distractions/noises going on where it's not as noticeable but it is there.A constant ding-aling-aling-aling...
I had an uncle who complained often about a constant ringing in in his head.

Check if the ding-aling is in step with your heartbeat. What is the cause of your 3/4 deafness?

Oh my goodness, this suddenly developed for me about a week ago and it is driving me batty! Like you, it is the worst at night when I am trying to sleep. I told my doctor when I had an appointment earlier this week and she kind of brushed it off.

I(not SB myself) have had tinnitus forever it seems. I remember having as a teen. I also have some hearing loss that was diagnosed as a teen. It started after taking asprin for too long (several times a day for months). I should have been taking a decongestant, but I was a kid and didn't know better. I sleep w/ a fan for some white noise in the room. I don't have it blowing on me. As a single person I would fall asleep w/radio on. My husband doesn't like it so now I use the fan and sleep w/MP3 player in my ear.
On the hearing test I've lost hearing for a high tone, can't hear it as it is the same frequency as my ringing.

My boyfriend's mother has tinnitus as well, but for her it sounds like crickets chirping. I'm not sure what she does for it though.

The list of medications that have tinnitus as a side effect is very long so check the info on all your regular meds.
Yeh I get the occational screaming high pitch, not a ring, just a continual ? high pitch noise that eventually, as I hear, fades away. Or kind of like hicups, by ignoring it and distracting myself, it goes.
Also I do hear telephones ringing in the ?far distance....lol I just put that down to supernatural hearing abilities....lol
LOL!!!!!...it's the party going on in there that keeps me:connie_mini_lalalal distracted:connie_mini_lalalal.
My neighbour suffers tinnitus (doesn't seem to be much to relieve it), we have crazy crickets and cecadas as the sun goes down, she's out there bashing bushes with her broom to get them away from windows and doors.
She felt she had to explain her behaviour....I get it, it's maddening.
Her tinnitus is apparently triggered by ?neuralgia, (pain in the neck?).
I tend to blame sinus, smoking, medications, ageing.
Hey, my ears fill with water like never before, it's very annoying. It happens to my housemate also, it has to be ageing, we were both big swimmers, never a problem with our ears....now it's ear plugs to have a shower!
I think white noise and distraction is worth trying.
Having your hearing tested would probably be a good start. (...sean!!!!!)

I have suffered with tinnitus for quite a long time now. I always have the TV on in the bedroom at a very low tone. With the new digi box I find that it switches itself off after a while so altho' I fall asleep with the TV on it will be off when I wake up.

Sean.
My ears are really bad with water now, too. :( And I love to swim and dive, so it's super annoying for me. Mine comes from being a kid with a crapload of ear infections though. Up until I was 11 or 12, I had at least 2 a year, and they were baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad! Now even getting water in my ear while in the shower just aggravates me.
Also, I wouldn't necessarily call it tinnitus for me, but I do get the noise(s) that come and go. Like last night. That was HORRIBLE! It's almost always when you're trying to sleep. Actually, it always happens when it's quiet. Everything's so loud when it's quiet!
I once tried to tell a teacher that the silence was deafening... Well, it really is...

I think I have always had it since I can remember being about 12ish, but 7 yrs ago I started having hearing issues, got tested and found out I have quite severe hearing loss in my left ear and pretty bad loss in my right ear. I have been wearing hearing aids in both ears now for about 5 years, and I didn't realize how much hearing I had lost in the prior 2 years before that. It really started when I was pg with my 2nd dd, who is about to turn 7.
Anyway, some days I don't notice the high pitch or cricket sounds due to other noises, and sometimes the hearing aids help, but other times like at night, it drives me batty.
You're not alone, I don't know there is anything that can be done, but I feel your pain. I use fans, etc and still hear it.

I get high pitched ringing in my ears every so often. It might be because I listen to my ipod quite alot. I also go to see my friend's band alot and always end up sitting right at the front...next to the speakers!

Always keep the volumn down to lowest you can, there is increased risk with earbuds. The sound waves have no where to go, your ear takes all the abuse. Even head phones are little safter in that way. Loud ringing or buzzing in your ear during or after loud noise exposure is indictative of hearing damage. You can recover, but not always depending on how much exposure and damage has been done previously. I have those foam ear plugs, I take them to concerts just in case it's too loud. Besides once the buzzing in the ear starts I am unable to hear anyways. Don't sit in front of the speakers, it will definitely make you lose your hearing faster. Ok I'm done spewing advice. :)

Do you really want to go deaf in not so many years from now?! You are certainly on the right road to that happening if you continually follow the course that you are on.
Make no mistake...I really love my special music loud but am more in love with keeping my hearing at it's best....:peace:
Roger - Nope the ding-aling isn't in step with my heartbeat...I was born 3/4 deaf in my left ear.Lots on my left side left side was schmucked at birth,I had 3 holes in my heart my left kidney didn't function,my left ear's deafness and my left leg/foot was more deformed than the right.
I started taking a nibble out of an aspirin every day for about a year or more now (for the ol'heart) soooo... perhaps that's the culprit or maybe not?
At night I usually set the clock radio on timer and have some low volume background music for about an hour to mask out the ding-aling until I fall asleep,or I'll just put up with it along with me wife's occasional snoring lol.
I've mentioned the ding-aling to my GP and he also kinda just brushed it off, saying well if it really, really bothers you that much we can check it out or do you think it's something you can live with,I chose the latter.
I too used to listen to my walkman (mp3 player of yesteryear) as loud as it would go riding a bike to work/home everyday,I stopped that when I just about got creamed by a car that I didn't hear coming up on my rear left,I was just too absorbed by the music and not paying attention... Be careful with them type devices!
Seems alot of us have a noise or two in our heads...interesting!
