the doctor just ordered a ct scan for cassie jo. her head is large, but she doesnt throw up, shes not fussy, her soft spot isnt bulgeing. she just has a big head. what are the chances its related to her hydrocephalus?

Well I wouldn't really know for sure since I've never had hydro myself, but I know when I was on that experimental drug to try to prevent it, my mom had to measure the size of my head every day to see if there were any changes.

Analise's head has always been on the large side-- she was shunted at 3 months of age and at that time her head size was in the 100th percentile. She started to grow into her head after some time. I guess there are a few questions in order to answer your question.. most importantly, are you noticing that it's suddenly getting larger or just slightly over time?

When Gabi was born and even much later, the doctors scared us to death with talk about a large head. They were constantly measuring. I don't see her as having a large head. Maybe her hair covers it up. She does have hydrocephalus and was shunted at nine days old.

well the ct scan showed that her ventricles are dialated. but the pediatrician says as long as she isnt showing any signs its not an emergency. also, her head has always been kinda big, but shes starting to grow into it. and today shes starting to worry me because shes been really tired and sleeping all day. thats not like her at all. im wondering if i should take her to the er or wait until monday...

Is her soft spot hard or bulging? Is she fussy? When she's awake, does she have sunset eyes? If "no" to these things, she might just be coming down with a cold or something. I hope it is something little like that. Y'all will be in my prayers.

Hey Lola! we actually just got outta the hospital because of the same thing. Hannah had no sypmtoms either other than her ventricles were enlarged. She ended up having a revision thinking the tube in her head was prob clogged. Come to find out that one was fine but the line to her abdomen was tied in a knot and then wrapped around her bowel....intestine. Her surgery turned out to be almost 4 hrs long because they had to call in a special surgeon to put scopes in her and get it untied. The neuro had never seen it happen before and the other surgeon had seen it once before....I'm just glad we did it when we did cause it could had completely been cut of or wrapped around so tight to burst her intestine and that would be toxic!!! She is home now and doing better.....sore and a bit cranky but not like she was the fisrt couple day (surgery was 10pm tuesday night) She is better everyday!!! Hope all goes well with sweet little Cassie....my prayers are with you and and Cassie!!!

sunsetting eyes look like the child is trying to look down at her cheeks all the time basically. The eyes are pointed downward in an unusual way.

Kelly, if your doctor doesn't mention
anything about that maybe you don't
have to worry. But to assure it, consult
other doctor, and ask about it.
