View Full Version : Ouch...
Damn,I did it again, first time this year though....The weather was great, got the bike out and was going to run a few errands,I couldn't remember if I locked the front door so I did a u-turn in the driveway to double back and check. The front wheel caught a bit of ice at the edge of the driveway by the lawn and down I went.OUCH,I went straight down like a rock and landed on the right side of my hip on the asphalt, one of those falls that when you hit the ground you feel a shudder go through your body.I sat there for a second and the guy across the road asked if I was okay to which I replied I think so...I slowly got up and the whole right side of me was kind of spasming while I went to check the door.I was so shaken up I decided to call it a day and went back inside. My left side from the knee to my shoulder are absolutely killing me.
What I don't understand is this was a stupid and a simple fall,a few years back I'd have just gotten up and carried out my business like nothing happened, geez! Man am I getting old!It looks like I'm going to have to take it easy for the next few days,I don't have much choice,I can barely move.

Take a break. We cant have you hurting yourself again. Maybe use the time to produce another piece of your amasing art work.
Thanks a bunch Ollie!

Getting a little over-eager for spring? Take it easy for a couple of days -- although tomorrow is probably going to be pretty miserable (I find the day after a fall to be the worst). Take some ibuprofen or Tyelenol ARthritis (I'm a big fan of alternating between the two).
Or a nice dose of chocolate might do just as well.

Sorry to hear about your fall! It really sucks when you take a good one. I have been victim to the ice about 100 times this year!! That stuff is slippery. I almost bit the ground yesteday when i went to get the kids from school. I have found that the older i get the more it seems to hurt to. Hope you feel better.

Getting old sure isn't for wimps!
I suppose a result of our various paralyses is that our working parts do more work than average so they wear out sooner. My shoulders and wrists for example!
Yes Lisa...Definitely eager for spring, and yup,yer right it always hurts more the next day.I've been medicating with some codeine contin I get for my bowels and my back, not taking anything extra just my usual daily dose.I did gobble down 2 big Hershy bars with almonds though lol.
Angel & Roger...yeah the older we all get the more it aches,I've noticed I'm not near as agile as I used to be either.Angel,100 times this already WOW !!! I've really and truly noticed a decline in my ability to bounce back in the last 2 to 3 years. This is the first year I've used a cane all winter long,up until now I've only used one when there was lots of ice.If I walk without the cane now I find I'm all over the sidewalk and look like a drunk. The cane seems to steady me out.
Ollie,I've been selling my art for many, many years but most of the time I'm paid to design what I have no interest in,Business cards,Logos and Letter Heads, but hey,it pays the bills.I'm really into surrealism and my favorite artists are Salvador Dali and M.C.Escher.I've had the opportunity to have some of my artwork hanging in one of our National Galleries here in Canada.
Yes Sheena,I'm definitely relaxing, the only thing I've done today is to cook a big pot of Chicken Noodle Soup for the Wife's and My dinner,it turned out pretty good too and we've got some left over if any of our kids show up.

My falls are my fault lol because i am to damn stubborn to not do what i want to do even if i risk getting hurt. It has been such a bad winter this year that there is a hard pack of ice underneath the snow and well ice and crutches don't mix well! It has gotten to the point that my husband walks behind me in a stance ready to catch me if i look like i am about to slip down. I also have to say i was born clumsey it runs in my family lol.
Dodger you are absolutly right getting older is not for wimps at all!!! I just never thought it would happen to me. I still feel like i am 18 years old but obviously i am not lol.
I should probably take it a little easier on my body but i just hate the thought of not doing what i want when i want and how i want. I went caving this summer. We climbed down 47 stories which was not hard in and of itself. Getting back up was a whole different story!!!!! I pushed myself to hard and i got scared for a couple of days because i couldn't even stand on my feet long enough to pull up my pants in the bathroom!! I would just crumble on the floor like i lost what little function i have in my legs. It took several days to recover from that one.
