I know that they are on the latex list of no-no foods but C has never had any problems with them. Now all of a sudden he won't eat them. I thought it was just a normal picky eater kids thing but I am wondering if they are making him feel sick

when i took add/adhd meds, bananas would cause horrible dreams. they contain small traces of hallucinogen but to small to affect most people but in some of those medications there is something that boosts it.

That is so interesting. I never knew that. Maybe that is why I feel so much better after eating one (LOL). I think we are just going to avoid them from now on to be safe.

thats something new for me. my son loves bananas, I never thought they could affect him? Is it something that can affect him in the future? as for latex he has never had a reaction. Im the one who hates the smell and makes me nauseated.

There is a cross reaction for those who have a latex allergy and certain foods like banana and avocado. BUT, I am not sure if the reaction can occur if you are not allergic to latex. C is allergic sp that was why I thought the banana might be bothering him

regrading hallucinogen properties, i have only heard that with some of the gourmet banana's but not 'cavendish' which is the variety found in grocery stores. i know that some people, a very small percentage have shown signs of allergies to ethylene gas (a harmless FDA approved chemical) which is used to speed ripen all bananas sold in stores.

as far as latex, all bananas produce it in quantity. the next time I cut a leaf off one of mine I'll snap a pic of it oozing out. natives in the tropics use this latex for daily survival - anything from stomach pain, a remedy for skin chapping and sunburn to sealing the bottom of boats. it is also used to make a popular gum.

i should add, for anyone to hallucinate from bananas you would need to eat one before bed. the elements that cause this are of very small quantity and when the body is active take no affect. you would need to be in a restful state to experience anything, and all that might be is a strange dream but nothing in the true form of a hallucination.

now that being said i am not up on all the medications, especially those for adhd and it is possible something could trigger an effect.

i like scientific stuff like that, thanks dancing dingo! post more!

when i was on a host of different adhd and epilepsy medications, i would have these sititations where i would see random flashes of light out of the corner of my eyes, especially when i focused on something up close sort of like seeing something move in the distance. i didn't have them all the time, now granted i did have a lot of other side effects to those drugs but this was different and in the later stages of taking those drugs. no one could figure where they came from, they weren't known side effects to those drugs at the time and after a zillion tests my diet came into play and it was found out that i had these after eating bananas.
