Hello everybody, well i am a 23 year old man with SB,i`ve led a very active life,i went to school just like my brothers none of which have SB,i played football,i even ran in cross country but up until 3 years ago it`s all caught up with me,i`ve recently been told that i might be having a detethering operation to relieve pain in my legs and back,i go out evry weekend with my mates doin everything a person does that doesn`t have a disability,i`ve had girlfriends but i never really commit because i`ve never found anyone that understands so i go out and i`m with a different girl every weekend,i know that sounds bad but i would really love to find someone that i can tell and they don`t look at me like i`m some sort of freak which i know i`m not because i have loads of self confidence when it comes to talking to women,i`m not afraid of a little rejection everybody gets it from time to time
Well thats me it`s great to be on a site like this with so many different people that have SB i hope we get to talk and share our experiences.

Hi. It is really nice to meet you. My son had a detethering in May. Not fun but he does feel better on the whole. Glad to see you here!

He was having a lot of back and knee pain before. The pain is gone so that is the blessing of it. However, he was able to walk short distances prior to and and he had a cecostomy which worked great for bowel continence. He has not gotten the strength back for walking needed and the cecostomy no longer is reliable. It has been a real adjustment but I do believe that things will return to what they were pre-detethering......it is just taking a very long time!

Hi again Irish eyes. I am hoping to enrol him into sports soon. I am a little nervious about it, but he is so excited at the thought. He is always on the move, doesnt like to sit too long, so needless to say he is always into mischief.smile.

I can understand you being nervous but i was the exact same,my mother and father didn`t think twice about me doin things that any young child should be doin so i played sports and even ran in cross country. When your son is older he will thank you for putting him in to sports,it will help him integrate with children his own age and give him self confidence for later on in life.does your son go to school with children who have disabilities or not?

my son goes to regular public school. all his friends are just regular kids, doesnt have any friends with disablities. When he see's a person on the street with a disability, I always notice he tries not to stare, and watches out of the corner of his eyes. He tells me, afterwards he doesnt want to make them feel bad, by staring. I always try to tell him God gives everyone something from a birth mark, to a big nose...etc. I want him to grow up full of confidence!!!!!
